In today’s (chronological) Bible reading… Numbers 6-9… we see God’s people being led by the cloud at day and the pillar of fire at night.
When Moses led the Israelites out of Egypt, they were in a hurry to leave. 400years of bondage can do that to you! It must have seemed as though the Promised Land was just around the corner. But it wasn’t.
Weeks passed. Months passed. Years passed! Most of them imagined they would one day – soon – be drinking milk and eating honey in the land God had promised them. But, in the meantime, they were pitching tents, taking them back down, and walking… step after step after step. They were ready to move when the cloud moved before them in the daytime… or the pillar of fire guided them in the nighttime.
It’s harder to follow God when we can’t see Him. Most of us aren’t graced with a daytime cloud or a nighttime flame to guide us as to which step we should take and which decision we should make.
Instead, we have God’s Word… the Bible. When we stay in His Word, we can ensure we are following God.
