In today’s (chronological) Bible reading… 1Kings 12; 2Chronicles 10… we see the end of a united Israel as God’s people split into a N.Kingdom & a S. Kingdom, Israel & Judah.

After Solomon died, his son, Rehoboam, took his place on the throne.

The old adage, “If no one is following you, you’re not leading” comes to mind.  Rehoboam looked around too late… and too late realized a significant portion of God’s people were going a different direction.  And, rather than seeking common ground… both sides took their ball and went home.

I’m just guessing… but, if either side could have turned back the clock from their perspective 100 years later, both sides would have.  This was surely not what God intended for His people.  Nor did it solve any problems God’s people hoped it might.

It’s always better to find common ground in our common direction than it is to walk parallel paths.
