In today’s (chronological) Bible reading… 1Kings 15:25–16:34; 2Chronicles 17… we see a succession of several generations of Israelite kings. You’ll notice that their evil escalated from generation to generation…
God had promised that the house of Jeroboam would be destroyed… and it was. Jeroboam was a bad king, and would become the standard by which other bad kings would be measured to.
Jeroboam bad. Baasha worse. Zimri still worse. Omri even still worse. Ahab set a new standard for evil.
We see these kings in contrast to King Jehoshaphat of Judah. Jehoshaphat walked in God’s ways (2Chron. 17:3), and delighted in God’s ways (2Chron. 17:6). He was fruitful in His service, sharing God’s Word with God’s people (2Chron. 17:7-9).
