In today’s (chronological) Bible reading… Amos 1-5… we are introduced to the prophet, Amos, and the beginning of his prophecy.
Amos was a a shepherd – slash – fig farmer who lived in Tekoa… a small village about 10 miles south of Jerusalem. That is, until God interrupted his daily life and called him to speak a word of warning to His people.
Amos’ prophetic words were to serve as a warning… making clear God controls the whims the “fate”, and He will hold governments – and individual people – accountable for their actions.
These words are still true today…
A God of love… who only wants the best for us… could expect – and guide toward – nothing less.
