In today’s (chronological) Bible reading… Isaiah 38,39; 2Kings 20; 2Chronicles 32:24-33… we see a turning point in King Hezekiah’s life.
King Hezekiah found himself in a bad spot. Jerusalem was under siege by Assyria… and King Hezekiah had just found out he was about to die! Sometimes it seems bad stuff just piles up!!
But, Hezekiah was rescued because he prayed… and trusted God’s promise for healing.
It would seem Hezekiah had turned the corner. But, just as he was getting his personal life under control, his public life slid downhill… fast! He let his enemies find out his secrets!! It seems to have been a matter of pride – “my house, my treasures, my days”.
And, when defeat seemed sure… he took consolation in the fact his mistakes would not be felt in his lifetime, but would be passed on to future generations!
It was a tragic case of selfishness… accepting God’s blessings, then taking them for granted to the point he felt entitled to those blessings.
Be grateful for what God has given you! It will put you in the right frame of mind to handle the future blessings God gives you!!
