In today’s (chronological) Bible reading… Daniel 1-3… we see some amazing stories of faithfulness to God, and by young men – possibly teenage boys!
We could look at the faith shown in Daniel’s diet challenge… or the faith shown in Daniel’s dream interpretation. But, let’s look at the faith shown by 3 teens named Shadrach, Meshach & Abednego.
Everyone was to bow to King Nebuchadnezzar… or face the fatal flames of a fiery furnace. The “3 Hebrew children” refused to bow, and were willing to die for their God.
It was a great statement of faith: “God can save us, but even if He does not because it does not fit into His grand plan, we will worship Him.” They worshiped God because He is God… not just because of what He could do for them. They knew God could deliver them. God could – and can – do anything He chooses to do. And that was the point! Whether God chose to rescue them or leave them to burn up in the flames, they would NOT bow to any other gods.
As it turned out, God DID rescue the 3. In fact, God – through Jesus – went into the fiery furnace with them! Even King Nebuchadnezzar could not deny God’s hand in their deliverance… and that their God was the One True God… and that they were right all along.
God is faithful. He can rescue us from any earthly problem we might be going through. And, so many times, He does! But, sometimes He does not. And, even when He does not (because it does not fit into His grand plan and what is best for us)… even when he does not, he is still worthy of our worship.
