In today’s (chronological) Bible reading… James 1-5… we read what may be the most practical book of the New Testament! It really is a step-by-step guide of living faith where the rubber meets the road.
James was a half-brother of Jesus… same mother, different fathers (Jesus was fathered by the Holy Spirit; James by Joseph). He also became a leader of the church in Jerusalem. He was a converted Jew who wrote to Jewish Christians throughout the Roman Empire.
When James writes, it’s almost as if he continues to expound on living our faith as Jesus taught it in His Sermon on the Mount.
If we are really living our faith – day by day, it will be seen in:
– how we face trials and troubles (ch.1)
– how we treat other people (ch.2)
– how we say what we say (ch.3)
– how we deal with sin in our lives (ch.4)
– how we pray (ch.5)
