In today’s (chronological) Bible reading… 1Peter… we realize Peter – “an unlearned fisherman” – knew more than a lot of people realized he did.
Peter was shown in a vision that it was “kosher” for him to take the gospel to the Gentiles. But, most of his ministry was directed to Jewish Christians. Peter write 2 letters to believers scattered over 5 areas of the Roman Empire, 2 of which Paul had not been allowed to enter. Today, we read his first letter.
The theme of this letter is the grace of God, and Peter told them – and us – how we are to live as immigrants in a hostile world.
Peter reminded them – and us – of what God had done for them – and has done for us – in salvation. Peter reminded them – and us – how God’s grace is helpful in various relationships in life… and in the coming persecution.
We could – and should – take Peter’s benediction to heart: “Grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.”
Do that… and you’ll see a noticeable difference in your day!
