Adam was the first human; he was created by God.

According to Gen. 1, God (Elohim) created human beings; “Male and female created He them; and blessed them, and called their name Adam …” (Genesis 5:2).

In Gen. 2 God forms “Adam” (this time meaning a single male human) out of ‘the dust of the ground’ and then “breathed into his nostrils the breath of life“, causing him to “become a living soul” (Gen. 2:7). God then placed Adam in the Garden of Eden, giving him the commandment that “Of every tree of the garden you may freely eat: But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, you shall not eat of it: for in the day that you eat thereof you shall surely die” (Gen. 2:16,17).

God then noted that “It is not good that the man should be alone” (Gen. 2:18).  He then brought every “beast of the field and every fowl of the air” (Gen. 2:19) before Adam and had Adam name all the animals.  But, among all the animals, there was not found “a helper suitable for” Adam (Gen. 2:20), so God caused “a deep sleep to fall upon Adam” and took one of his ribs, and from that rib, formed a woman (Gen. 2:21,22), subsequently named Eve.

In Gen. 3, Adam is expelled from Eden for disobeying God; he ate from the tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil.  As a result, Adam was cursed to labor, was doomed to an eventual death, and was restricted from the Tree of Life by being expelled from the only home he had ever known.

According to the Book of Genesis, Adam had 3 male children with Eve; Cain, Abel, and Seth.

According to the genealogies of Genesis, Adam died at the age of 930, making him the third longest living person next to Noah and Methuselah.

LifeAPP:

Adam was created by God… from dust!  You were also created by God!!

The human body is the most complex organism in the whole universe.

You can choose to believe you evolved from some slimy ooze, but take a look at yourself in the mirror.  Doesn’t it make more sense to believe that an extremely powerful and intelligent Creator designed your body and your mind?

Just as an artist signs his work, God has left His imprint on your life… His personal touch.  And it is God’s personal touch that gives your life meaning.

You can read Adam’s story in Genesis 1:1—5:5.
