Lot’s daughters are unnamed.  They did not have an easy life; raised in the city of Sodom, they were surely exposed to every kind of immorality.  In fact, just hours before Sodom’s judgment, when an angry mob arrived at Lot’s doorstep, demanding to be given Lot’s 2 “male guests” so they could have their with them sexually, their own father, Lot, offered up his daughters as a concession.

As they fled Sodom the next day, their husbands refused to go with them… thinking their father-in-law was crazy.

And, on their way out of the city, their mother disobediently looked back… and was turned into a pillar of salt.

Soon, the 2 daughters were reduced to living in a cave with their father… a far cry, I’m sure, from the way they had envisioned their lives.

I.  The Supposition of Lot’s 2 Daughters  (Genesis 19:30,31)

II.  The Sins of Lot’s 2 Daughters  (Genesis 19:32-36)

In this seemingly desperate situation, Lot’s daughters did the unthinkable.  Seeing no men anywhere around… and wanting to continue the family lineage, they got their father drunk… and then had sex with him so he would father a child by them!

They carried out their plan… and both became pregnant.

III.  The Sons of Lot’s 2 Daughters  (Genesis 19:37,38)

The sons they would give birth to would eventually become the Moabites and the Ammonites – 2 nations that would constantly cause trouble for the descendants of Abraham.

You hear the same lesson taught lots of different ways…

“The road to Hell is paved with good intentions.”

“The ends justify the means”

“Compromise with principle is rarely wise.”

Be careful what you’re willing to give up to get what you want.  You’ll regret it if you give up on who you are!

You can read the story of Lot’s daughters in Genesis 19.
