Each week this year, I am challenging myself to memorize a Scripture verse (or verses).

This week’s verses are Philippians 3:13,14. These verse remind us to face each day with focus… and how to live a successful life!

I. Leave the Past Behind (v.13ab)

;but one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind…”

A Christian, due to his/her relationship with God and the forgiveness offered through Christ, is given the unique opportunity to leave the past behind.

Are being pulled back… weighed down… tripped up… by events in your past? You can decide not to let it happen! You’ll never live today as successfully as you were intended to as long as you’re still looking backwards.

II. Live the Present toward Your Goal (v.14)

I press toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.”

As you’re living today, what are you aiming for? Where are you headed? Paul’s goal was to receive God’s best for him. What is your goal?

Direction Determines Destination!

III. Leaning into the Future (v.13c)

“…and reaching forward to those things which are ahead,”

The word Paul used for “reaching forward” paints the picture of a runner in a race, straining forward with all he has… you can almost picture the veins in his neck as he leans forward toward the finish line.

Face today just like that… with an eye toward an even better tomorrow!
