ALL THE WAY MY SAVIOR LEADS ME written in 1875
Fanny Crosby (1820-1915), a blind songwriter who lived more than a century ago, trusted the Lord to lead her and to provide for her each step of the way. One day she needed 5 dollars and didn’t know where she would get it. So… she prayed about it. A few minutes later a stranger knocked at her door. When she answered it, the man gave her a 5-dollar bill, and then turned around and left.
Fanny was amazed at God’s incredible timing. Of that event, she wrote: “I have no way of accounting for this except to believe that God, in answer to my prayer, put it into the heart of this good man to bring money to me. My first thought was, ‘It is so wonderful the way the Lord leads me’.”
That day, she wrote this hymn… and it is considered one of her more popular of the 8,500+ hymns she wrote! In her autobiography, Crosby wrote that this was her first hymn to be set to music by Robert Lowry. It has been included in over 250 hymnals, including a quarter of those produced since 1970.
Read this hymn, and – today – follow God where He leads you.
All the way my Savior leads me; what have I to ask beside?
Can I doubt His tender mercy, Who through life has been my Guide?
Heav’nly peace, divinest comfort, here by faith in Him to dwell!
For I know, whate’er befall me, Jesus doeth all things well;
for I know, whate’er befall me, Jesus doeth all things well.
All the way my Savior leads me, cheers each winding path I tread;
gives me grace for every trial, feeds me with the living Bread.
Though my weary steps may falter, and my soul athirst may be,
gushing from the Rock before me, Lo! A spring of joy I see;
gushing from the Rock before me, Lo! A spring of joy I see.
All the way my Savior leads me; O the fullness of His love!
Perfect rest to me is promised in my Father’s house above.
When my spirit, clothed immortal, wings its flight to realms of day
this my song through endless ages – Jesus led me all the way;
this my song through endless ages – Jesus led me all the way.
