GLORIFY THY NAME                                                                        written in 1981

The Story

Donna Adkins began singing in public when she was only 2 years old. Her parents were traveling gospel singers, so she was introduced very early to singing in public. This song was written years later, when she was 35 years old and had 2 children of her own.

She and her family had just moved to northern Louisiana. Family moves are always stressful, but Donna looked at the move as an opportunity for a fresh start… not just in a new community and a new church, but also with the Lord. She looked at it as a needed change of pace and a time to seek God.

When she wrote this song, she had been reading John 17, which contains what is called the “High Priest” prayer of Jesus. The words “glory” and “glorify” appear 5 times in the first 5 verses.

From those verses, she wrote this simple worship chorus which glorifies the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit in successive verses.

The Song

               Read this chorus, and – today – pray that God might be glorified.

Father, we love You;
we worship and adore You.
Glorify Thy Name in all the earth.

CHORUS
Glorify Thy Name!
Glorify Thy Name!
Glorify Thy Name in all the earth!

Jesus, we love You;
we worship and adore You.
Glorify Thy Name in all the earth.  (Chorus)

Spirit, we love You;
we worship and adore You.
Glorify Thy Name in all the earth.  (Chorus)
