This song was written by Tim Nichols and Craig Wiseman, and was recorded by Michael Peterson… included on his album, Being Human.
Tim Nichols is an American country music singer and songwriter. Active since the late 1980s, Nichols has written for several of the top country music singers. He and songwriter Zack Turner recorded one album in 1993, as the duo Turner Nichols.
Craig Michael Wiseman is an American country music songwriter. He has been writing since the late 1980s, and his songs have been recorded by many of the top country music artists. He has written twenty-six #1 songs on the Billboard Hot Country Songs music charts, and has won a number of industry awards. In 2009 he was named “Songwriter of the Decade” by the Nashville Songwriters Association International, and in 2015, he was inducted into the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame.
Michael James Peterson (born August 7, 1959) is an American Country Music artist who was born in Tucson, Arizona. At an early age, he was influenced by the music his grandmother listened to, such as Cole Porter and Roger Miller.
After attending high school in Richland, WA, Peterson earned a football scholarship to Pacific Lutheran University, where he won a national championship. One of his teammates, Brad Westering, was also working as a producer for Deniece Williams at the time. Through Westering, Peterson got the opportunity to write songs for Williams, as well as gospel headliners The Imperials. This all led to the production of Peterson’s first release, “Michael Peterson”, a collection of contemporary Christian songs, on Sparrow Records in 1986. Eventually, Peterson traveled to Nashville, TN, where he started working as a professional songwriter.
Though known more as a songwriter, Peterson also had a fairly successful recording career.
This song has long been one of my favorite songs. It paints such a beautiful and nostalgic picture of a relaxing Sunday… time in worship, time for rest, and time with those that we love best.

Well, a whole lot of people like Saturday night;
gettin’ loud and crazy, well, it just feels right.
I guess everybody loves to see it come;
just forget everything and go and have some fun.
And the same goes for me. Oh, but lately…
Don’t you know that lately…
There’s somethin’ bout a Sunday mornin’ breeze,
church bells ringin’, “bringin’ in the sheaves”,
and the smell of supper, simmerin’ on the stove…
a little bit of both’s sure good for the soul.
Sittin’ on the swing with her head on my chest;
givin’ any worries one day’s rest.
Suddenly, everything’s gonna be okay. There’s somethin’ ’bout a Sunday.
Now, that big bad Monday is bound to come;
that ol’ alarm clock’s ringin’ and we up and run.
There’s a whole lotta headaches that we get into;
everybody’s wonderin’ how to make it through.
Well, the same goes for me. Oh, but lately…
Don’t you know that lately, yeah… (CHORUS)
