This song was written by John Mark Hall and Steven Curtis Chapman, and was recorded by Casting Crowns… included on their self-titled album.

Mark Hall (born September 14, 1969) is the lead vocalist for the Georgia-based Contemporary Christian music group, Casting Crowns, a seven-member group composed of worship leaders. Hall himself is also youth pastor at Eagle’s Landing First Baptist Church in McDonough, GA.

Steven Curtis Chapman (born November 21, 1962) is an American Christian music singer, songwriter, record producer, actor, author, and social activist for adoption.
After starting his career in the late 1980s, as a songwriter and performer of Contemporary Christian music, Chapman has since been recognized as one of the most prolific singers in the genre, releasing over 20 albums. Chapman has also won 5 Grammy awards and 58 Gospel Music Association Dove Awards, more than any other artist in history. His 7 “Artist of the Year” Dove Awards, his latest in 2009, are also an industry record. Chapman has sold more than 10 million albums and has 10 RIAA-certified Gold or Platinum albums.

Casting Crowns is a Contemporary Christian and Christian rock band started in 1999 by youth pastor, Mark Hall – who serves as the band’s lead vocalist – as part of a youth group at First Baptist Church in Downtown Daytona Beach, Florida. They later moved to Stockbridge, Georgia, and more members joined. Some members of the band currently work as ministers for Eagle’s Landing First Baptist Church in McDonough, Georgia. The band has won a Grammy and a Dove Award.
In keeping with The Great Commission of Matthew 28:19,20, Hall describes their music as a “ministry of discipleship”.

I first heard Casting Crowns while I was pastor of West Fork First Baptist Church. Their songs often serve as a conscience for the church…

This song asks a convicting question: “What if the church really did as Jesus asked us to do?”
Bible Reference… 2Chronicles 7:14; Matthew 16:18
What if the armies of the Lord picked up and dusted off their swords,
vowed to set the captives free, and not let Satan have one more?

What if the church, for Heaven’s sake, finally stepped up to the plate,
took a stand upon God’s promise and stormed Hell’s rusty gates?

What if His people prayed, and those who bear His name
would humbly seek His face and turn from their own way?

And what would happen if we prayed for those raised up to lead the way?
Then, maybe, kids in school could pray and unborn children see light of day.

What if the life that we pursue came from a hunger for the truth?
What if the family turned to Jesus; stopped asking Oprah what to do?

He said that they would hear His promise has been made;
He’ll answer loud and clear if only we would pray.

If My people called by My name, if they’ll humble themselves and pray…
If My people called by My name, if they’ll humble themselves and pray…
