Bill Gaither (born March 28, 1936) is an American singer and songwriter of Southern gospel and Contemporary Christian music. He has written numerous popular Christian songs with his wife, Gloria; he is also known for performing as part of the Bill Gaither Trio and the Gaither Vocal Band (GVB). In the 1990s, his career gained a resurgence (as well as the careers of other southern gospel artists), as popularity grew for the Gaither Homecoming series.

Suzanne (Gaither) Jennings is a daughter to Bill and Gloria Gaither.

The Gaither Vocal Band is an American southern gospel vocal group, named after its founder and leader Bill Gaither. Although the group started out recording contemporary Christian music in the 1980s, it became known for southern gospel after the popularity of the Gaither Homecoming videos.
The 2012 roster of the GVB consisted of Wes Hampton – tenor; David Phelps – tenor; Michael English – lead; Mark Lowry – baritone; and Bill Gaither – bass.

This song describes the conversation and ensuing miracle of John 5:1-17… and reminds us that we, too, must want what Jesus has for us.
Bibke Reference… John 5:1-17

Waiting there for thirty eight years; cried so long, he ran out of tears.
Just a worn out man, looking for a healing hand.
Then, one day, his chance came along; a healing Man who can make him strong,
and he caught His eyes, but His question took him by surprise.

        CHORUS:
Do you wanna be well, really wanna be well?
Are you willing to take up your mat and help yourself?
Do you wanna be free, really wanna be free?
If you wanna be healed and whole, you gotta wanna be well.

Ever tried to fix yourself, and every time you got up you fell;
and you wallowed there, drowning in your own despair?
Have you gotten used to the chains? Are you so attached to the pain,
you’re afraid to part? Then ask the man for a brand new heart. (CHORUS)

        CODA:
There’s a better life waiting just for you. There’s endless open spaces in the sun.
