This song was written by Ronn Huff, Buddy Skipper, and David Meece. It was first recorded by David Meece… included on his album, Are You Ready?

Ronald Lee Huff (born March 16, 1938) is a treasure to the world of gospel music in many ways. His faithful behind-the-scenes role as an arranger has made many artists and songwriters shine, putting songs in musical settings that took them from good to great, or from great to greater. He began his career as a church choir director, serving as a minister of music in Denver, Colorado. There, he arranged two books of hymns, Celebration: Music for Festival Choir and Celebration II which both became successful. The ripple effects of Ronn Huff’s life and work will be felt for eternity; he has been a servant the gospel music community.
Buddy Skipper is a Music Arranger, Music Director and Recording Session Musician living in Nashville, TN, since 1972. He has played on and conducted over 3,000 recording sessions and was Music Director for two-and-a-half years on the
popular TNN music variety show “Music City Tonight”, hosted by Lorianne Crook and
Charlie Chase.

David Meece (born May 26, 1952) is a Contemporary Christian musician who enjoyed success in the mid 1980s throughout the early 2000s with more than 30 Top 10 hits (several reaching #1).
Growing up in Humble, Texas, with an abusive, alcoholic father, Meece found solace in playing the piano. By his mid-teens he was touring in Europe and the US. He went on to study music at the Peabody Conservatory of Music where he met his wife, Debbie, who plays the viola. Meece and his wife currently live in Franklin, Tennessee.
Meece is perhaps best known for this song (which has been recorded by well over 200 other artists and sung in several languages according to Meece’s website).
Meece was requested to appear in Billy Graham Crusades, among other outreach groups and television broadcasts. He was inducted into the Christian Music Hall of Fame in 2008. In 2012, Meece was given a Lifetime Achievement Award by the Artists Music Guild for his body of work.

I first heard this song while in college. It was one of the earlier Contemporary Christian songs I heard.

This song reminds us of the reason behind Christmas.
Bible Reference… Luke 2:10; John 3:16; 12:46; Ephesians 2:14-18;
Hebrews 9:26; 1Timothy 1:15; Titus 2:13,14

As little children we would dream of Christmas morn,
and all the gifts and toys we knew we’d find.
But, we never realized a Baby born one blessed night
gave us the greatest gift of our lives.

        And we were the reason that He gave His life;
        We were the reason that He suffered and died.
        To a world that was lost, He gave all He could give to show us the reason to live.

As the years went by, we learned more about gifts
and giving of ourselves and what that means.
On a dark and cloudy day a Man hung crying in the rain;
because of love. Because of love…

        2nd CHORUS:
        And we are the reason that He gave His life;
        We are the reason that He suffered and died.
        To a world that was lost, He gave all He could give to show us the reason to live.

        I finally found the reason for living; it’s in giving every part of my heart to Him.
        In all that I do, every word that I say, I’ll be giving my all just for Him. For Him…
        (2nd CHORUS)
